Diana Samuels

Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist

Diana specialises in working with children & young people who have emotional difficulties.

Diana’s training as a child and adolescent psychotherapist, as well as her previous training as a play therapist has given her skills so that she is as comfortable working non-verbally, with play and art, as verbally. This way of working suits not only younger children, but also teenagers who may find it difficult to talk to adults about their feelings. When Diana meets with the young person or their parents, they can consider together which way of working is going to be most helpful.

Although Diana mostly sees children alone, she always consider a child as part of a family, and aims to work with the whole family, to think together how the child can best be supported. If it would be helpful to meet with parents together with their children, or with parents alone, she is able to offer this as a service.

Her background in social work has equipped her to offer parenting and behaviour management advice which she draws on as appropriate.

Diana has particular experience in working with:

  • Depression

  • Trauma

  • Attachment disorders

  • Low self esteem

  • Bereavement

  • Family separation & divorce

  • Domestic violence

  • Self harm

  • Abuse

  • Fostering and adoption

  • Young carers

  • Bullying

Diana holds an MA in Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and is a full member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists (UKCP). She is HCPC registered as a social worker.

Diana has extensive experience of working for the local authority and the voluntary sector.
