What is counselling/ psychotherapy ?
In therapy a client can explore various aspects of their life and feelings, talking about them freely and openly in a way that is rarely possible with friends or family. Bottled up feelings such as anger, anxiety, grief etc. can become very intense and therapy offers an opportunity to explore them, with the possibility of making them easier to understand. By listening attentively and patiently a therapist can begin to perceive the difficulties from the client's point of view and can help them to see things more clearly.
Jackie Becker is the psychotherapist/counsellor at the Natural Gateway Clinic. She is a highly experienced therapist who offers counselling to individuals.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy/counselling can help if you are experiencing any of the following problems:
- you are feeling low and anxious
- you feel unable to cope or feel you lack confidence
- you are experiencing relationship difficulties
- you are experiencing feelings of fear or panic attacks
- you have suffered loss, bereavement or other trauma
- you feel lonely and isolated
- you are feeling stressed, either in the workplace or elsewhere
- you suffer from eating disorders or other destructive patterns of behaviour
- you suffer with physical symptoms that may have an emotional basis
How does psychodynamic therapy help?
- by offering a confidential place to talk, free from the pressures of everyday life
- by challenging tendencies to repeat unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour
- by developing an awareness of yourself and your relationships
- by making sense of your problems by exploring their links to the past
- by providing a safe, non-judgemental space where you can speak openly about feelings that upset or worry you
- by offering support during times of crisis
FAQs
Q. How long will therapy take?
A. You may come to therapy with an initial specific problem. In this instance, short term solution focused work may be helpful here. However, you may want, or need, to make deeper changes; in this case longer-term work would be more beneficial.
Q. How often will I see my therapist?
A. You may see your therapist once a week. If you want to work at a greater depth and intensity, you may want to meet twice weekly. Sessions are 50 minutes and preferably are arranged at the same time each week.
Q. How much will it cost?
A. My standard fee is currently £40 per session. However, I do allow some space in my practice for people who cannot pay the full fee. This is something that can be talked about in the initial session.
Q. What is meant by the term psychodynamic?
This refers to the model of therapy based on the principle that problems and distress in the present may be related to experiences in the past of which we may no longer be aware. Psychodynamic therapy counselling helps the client to resolve painful situations in the present by exploring their roots in the past.
Q. What do I need to do now?
A. It is important to find a therapist with whom you feel both comfortable and can work with. If you would like to arrange an appointment please contact Jackie on 07941 328066 or email jackielbecker@gmail.com
