Podiatrists are autonomous healthcare professionals who aim to improve the mobility, independence and quality of life for their patients. They assess, diagnose and treat people with problems of the feet, ankles and lower limbs.

A podiatrist is qualified by their education and training to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the foot, ankle, and related structures of the leg. Podiatrists are uniquely qualified among medical and health professionals to treat the foot and ankle based on their education, training and experience. The scope of practice of UK podiatrists on registration after their degree in podiatric medicine includes the use and supply of some prescription only medicines, injection therapy and non-invasive surgery e.g. performing partial or total nail resection and removal, with chemical destruction of the tissues.
To verify that a practitioner is registered with the HPC you can access the HPC Online Register.

Podiatry Services
We recommend annual foot checks for all members of the family. Podiatrists are skilled in screening and health education, so a visit to the Podiatrist need not always be about sore feet. Your feet and your families' foot health are important. Podiatrists are able to provide advice on foot care, health education, gait analysis and footwear advice. Your Podiatrist can advise on workplace footwear the right type of shoes for you, or the most suitable shoes to prevent foot problems. Much of the work of a podiatrist is aimed at prevention and education. If you are diabetic you should be having an annual diabetic foot check. Your Podiatrist can perform this diabetic foot check and provide you with the necessary Diabetic foot care advice.

Biomechanial Assessment

The biomechanical assessment involves the Podiatrist looking at the way you walk from the head right down to your toes, generally focusing on the lower limb.

We also carry out weight bearing and non weight bearing assessments. These are completely painless and will involve us moving your feet and sometimes legs through a range of movements to look at how your feet and legs are functioning in terms of movement.

If we are confident you will benefit from wearing orthotics then we will make Thermoshell heat moldable orthotics. These let the practitioner mold directly to the patient's foot without having to use a plaster cast or send to an outside laboratory. This makes the custom made orthotics cheaper.
